The new 2011 Mercedes SLS AMG GT3

Mercedes-Benz launched a latest race car during the New York Auto Show earlier today. Engineers used plentiful quantities of carbon fiber to modify the car’s exterior. It now characteristics a new front valance with larger air intakes leading to a huge carbon splitter. Flicks were mounted at the front of each wheel well, now wider, to increase down force. Venting in the hood allows engine heat to free, while vents behind the wheels raise air flow. The smooth under-body decreases drag & leads to a new rear diffuser, with a huge rear wing sitting up top.

In this Mercedes engine has been modified slightly, stating that the AMG 6.3 liter V8 engine is virtually identical to that which is used on the stock car. The car runs up to 60mph in 3.7 seconds, slightly faster than the 3.9-second time posted by the base car. To build driving race-friendly, the engine is mounted to a sequential 6 speed race transmission.

In this Benz car comes with an AMG race brake system comprised of ventilated discs, 6-piston front & 4-piston rear calipers. It uses instead of the AMG carbon ceramic brakes optionally available on the SLS, which do not well in the FIA GT3 authorized 18-inch wheels. Center-locking alloy wheels calculate 12×18 inches up front, & 13×18 inches in back. In this Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 will come to the market at the beginning of 2011, with the pre-order process starting up later this year.
