Asean marketplace not affected

TOYOTA Motor said its newest security recall affecting millions of cars in North America, Europe and China doesn’t involve vehicles in South-east Asia.

The recollect of several Toyota models – Highlander, Camry, Corolla, RAV4, Aygo, iQ, Yaris, Auris, Verso and Avensis – ‘doesn’t include Toyota automobiles for the Asean market’, said a company area manager.

‘And that means cars in Singapore are not affected,’ Mr Katsushiko Kunitomo, GM of Toyota Motor Asia Pacific, said in answer to a query.

Toyota distributor Borneo Motors said it had also received queries from clients about the safety recall. Borneo managing director Koh Ching Hong said the company had free from worry them that it doesn’t affect their cars.

‘The problem seems to be limited to left-hand-drive cars,’ he said. The majority of Toyotas sold here are as of the company’s Thai plant. The rest are from Japan.
