How to keep ur Car in an residence Lot

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

Car Theft is big business. In the US, a car is stolen every 28.8 seconds. Last year, over 1 million vehicles were stolen across the nation. Car theft risk is primarily depended by where you park your car, with theft occurring frequently in places where lots of cars are parked for extended period of times. High-risk places contain colleges, shopping centers, movie theaters, sports events, and, unfortunately for apartment dwellers, huge apartment complexes. Residence complexes have large groups of cars that are typically left unattended for hours at a time, which makes a residence complex parking lot an absolute supermarket for car thieves

How to reduce ur Vehicle’s Theft Risk

Stop criminals from stealing your car while it is parked in your residence complex by the following:
Get a residence in a gated community. If you are moving soon, try to find a residence complex with a security gate. Car theft is less general if the thieves contain to go to great lengths to get into the complex.
Pay for a garage, if one is available. Some residence complexes give enclosed garages for an extra fee each month. For renters who live in areas with high auto theft rates, the tiny extra cost might be worthwhile.
• If you have the choice, park in high-traffic, well-lit portions of the lot. Ideally, you wish for a parking place where cars and people regularly pass by and that is well-lit. Avoid parking in distant corners of the lot where your car is not observable from most apartments.
• Stamped your VIN on your vehicle’s parts. Having your vehicle identification number stamped on your doors, windows, fenders, and other main parts of your car will create it nearly impossible for thieves to sell your car for its parts.
Put a locking tool on the steering column or wheel. Yes, anti-theft devices that catch the steering wheel, such as The Club, are not impervious to the efforts of thieves, but they are a restriction. Thieves may be able to break a locking device, but it takes more time and tools to do so, which may be sufficient to inspire the thief to pass over your car.
Purchase an Onstar or LoJack system. These devices allow your car to be tracked in the incident it is stolen. LoJack is a stolen vehicle revival system that uses a tiny radio frequency transmitter that can be hidden in any of 20 spaces on your car. Once your car is reported stolen to the police, the transceiver is activated, emitting an impossible to hear signal. Lots of law enforcement vehicles and helicopters are prepared with computers with LoJack tracking ability, so the police can find LoJack signals in order to track and locate your car.

Child Safety in a Car

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

Many children are killed or seriously injured in backover incidents. A backover incident typically occurs when a car coming out of a driveway or parking space backs over a child because the driver did not see him/her. These backover incidents typically involve toddlers that wander unnoticed into the path of a vehicle moving in reverse.

Prevention Tips:

Teach children not to play in or around cars
• Supervise children carefully when in and around vehicles
• Always walk around your vehicle and check the area around it before backing up.
• Be aware of small children-the smaller a child, the more likely it is you will not see them.
Teach children to move away from a vehicle when a driver gets in it or if the car is started.
• Have children in the area stand to the side of the driveway or sidewalk so you can see them as you are backing out of a driveway or parking space.
• Make sure to look behind you while backing up slowly in case a child dashes behind your vehicle unexpectedly.
• Take extra care if you drive a large vehicle because they are likely to have bigger blind zones. Roll down your windows while backing out of your driveway or parking space so that you’ll be able to hear what is happening outside of your vehicle.
• Teach your children to keep their toys and bikes out of the driveway.
• Because kids can move unpredictably, you should actively check your mirrors while backing up.
• Many cars are equipped with detection devices like backup cameras or warning sounds, but they cannot take the place of you actively walking around your car to make sure your children are safely out of the way. Do not rely solely on these devices to detect what’s behind your vehicle.

What you need to know, now:

• Every vehicle has blind zone areas. As the size and height of a vehicle increases, the blind zone area does as well.
• The elevation of the driver’s seat, the shape of the windows and mirrors, and the slope of the road or driveway can affect the size of the blind zone behind the vehicle.
• Light trucks, SUVs, and vans, are more likely to be involved in backovers than cars.
• Backovers are often a result of a child following a parent or guardian to the driveway without the parent knowing.

New Citroen upsize V6 diesel

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

The Citroen C5 will get a larger, 3.0-litre diesel next year in Australia, with more power and improved fuel economy. CITROEN will launch an upgraded V6 HDi diesel power plant in Australian-bound C5 and C6 luxury car models sometime in the middle of this year.

The French company also has taken the chance to fit larger front disc brakes to help cope by the performance increase, with variable-capacity steering to maximize efficiency and reduce consumption, plus a better alternator that charges only when needed. The new engine lifts power and torque except slashes fuel consumption and emissions compared to its 150kW/440Nm 2.7-litre V6 HDi dual-turbo predecessor.

Dubbed the 3.0 V6 HDi 240 FAP to return its European horsepower rating, the 2993cc engine delivers 18 per cent extra power (177kW at 3800rpm) and about 12 per cent extra torque (450Nm from 1600 to 3600rpm).

This translates into a 0-100km/h sprint-time of 7.9 secs in the C5 (formerly 9.6s) and 8.5 seconds in the C6 (previously rated at 8.9 secs). As an effect, the 3.0 V6 HDi meets Euro V emissions standards that become mandatory. The normal gearbox is a 6-speed automatic transmission, directing drive to the front wheels on equally Citroen models.

Spurring on the changes are a 272cc power increase, third-generation direct common-rail injection scheme using injection pressures of up to 2000 bars, compared with 1650, revised combustion chambers, double variable displacement turbochargers, a revamped exhaust gas recirculation set-up that improves the thermal ability of the fuel/water exchange by 40 per cent, and an energy recovery method in deceleration and braking via a fresh new alternator.

Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 Nearly Ready

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

GM design Chief Ed Welburn confirmed the Frankfurt Show that the Camaro Z28 program is back on track. As we reported back in April, the Z28 was fundamentally completed, with the design signed off, except the final engineering and certification work was put on hold as GM’s economic condition spun out of control. The awful news is EPA certification and GM durability requirements mean the Z28 is doubtful to go on sale until late 2011.

Our descriptions are very close to the final signed-off design, based on photos of a scale clay model we’ve seen. Main facts to note are the deeper frontage bumper fascia, with larger front aperture under the grille and the spotlights mounted in deep vents on other side. The Z28 also gets an unusual grille mesh compared with that of a usual Camaro.

At the back is a taller edge spoiler that runs the full width of the car. The rear-bumper fascia features a deeper part with integrated exhaust outlets. The wheels are 20-inchers with a forceful “tuning-fork” five-spoke pattern.Underneath is the 6.2-liter supercharged LSA V-8 that also powers the Cadillac CTS-V. As we have already established, this is quite a power plant, delivering 556 HP at 6100 rpm and 551 pound-feet of torque at 3800 rpm.

The near-4300-pound CTS-V thunders beginning 0 to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds and nails the quarter mile in 12.3 sec in automatic or 12.4 sec in manual. Top speed is restricted to 175 mph in the auto. But the manual will storm to an autobahn-melting 193 mph. As the Z/28 will weigh 200 to 300 pounds fewer than the CTS-V, it can nail 60 mph in 3.9 seconds and run the quarter in the very low 12s. This Z28 could be the fastest Chevy ponycar since the famous ZL-1-powered COPO 9560 Camaros make 40 years ago.

The Z28 is possible to only be on hand with a six speed manual transmission, unless GM can piggyback some of the car’s certification on work previously done for the CTS-V to get the automatic into the choice at low cost.
